If you’re looking for a way to take the first step–to find some way to start making a dent in climate change–then NWEI’s EcoChallenges may just be the thing. EcoChallenges are discrete tasks you can undertake to reduce your footprint. Some tasks can be completed in a day, like fixing leaky faucets. Others are more involved, such as trying to reduce waste by eating fewer packaged foods for a month.
Fortunately, the next challenge begins in April 3, and sign ups will open shortly. The upcoming challenge is based on research from Project Drawdown, which identified the 100 actions people and societies can take to most reduce climate change. Specific tasks within the challenge will each relate to one of the 100 actions.
As an example, what we eat and how we dispose of food waste is an umbrella category for many of the 100 actions. EcoChallenge participants who want to make their mark here can attempt tasks like going vegetarian for a certain number of days during the challenge or even spending a few minutes better understanding expiration dates on products and why they generally don’t mean you should throw away food that’s past the date.
Our whole family is ready for the challenge! In terms of food, we’re already getting started. Below is our daughter examining fruit from our box of Imperfect Produce.
